Radhika Malpani

Founder and Former Lead of Google Images

Radhika has over 30 years experience in the technology sector, working at leading organizations like Google, Hewlett Packard and Siemens. 
 
At Google, Radhika was a Senior Eng. Director and was responsible, over a period of 20 years, for initiating and scaling up several critical products. Starting with leading Google Ads in 2000, Radhika founded Google Images, building the teams and growing it over several years to 1B+ queries/day. In addition to starting Google LocalSearch, and building several core back-end systems for Google Web Search, she also founded and lead Google Travel Search to help users better plan their leisure trips. 

Prior to Google, Radhika was a researcher at Hewlett Packard Labs where she created a new networking product focused on managing multicast for the IP network backbone, primarily to enable the spreading use of multimedia. Before HP Labs, she built SCADA systems at Siemens.
 
Radhika has always been interested in the application of technology for social impact, and recently left Google to focus full-time on helping mission oriented startups scale. She uses her long experience with building and scaling successful products and organizations, to help founders think through critical strategic issues. She currently sits on the boards of Nexleaf Analytics, Simprints, as well as Educate! and advises several startup CEOs including Francis Energy, TalkingPoints, Dost Education, Skyven Technologies. She is also a technical advisor to CIFF (Children's Investment Fund Foundation), and a mentor with the Unreasonable Group and Rippleworks.

In keeping with her belief in the value of not just technology, but also the processes and mindset within Silicon Valley’s leading technology firms, to the social development world, Radhika recently paired up with professors at Stanford and UC Santa Cruz to create and teach a new class, Hacking4Oceans, aimed at using lean methodologies to solve problems critical to the health of oceans.

Radhika holds a Graduate degree in Comp. Sci. from U. C. Berkeley.
